Busking, Open Mics & Battle of the Bands
You do not need to begin your career by booking a large venue. RockMundo includes smaller and competitive performance routes that let a character or band build experience, test material and start creating a public history.

In brief
Use busking for accessible public practice, open mics for a more structured early stage, and Battle of the Bands when your band has the required material and is ready to compete against other groups. Each route gives different reasons to perform before a major gig.
Busking
Busking is one of the simplest ways to turn musicianship into a public activity. It is especially useful while your catalogue, money and band situation are still developing.
Why do it?
Build a performance history, make use of spare schedule space and start testing how your character handles public music.
What matters?
Relevant musical ability and your condition still matter. Busking is easier to access than a booked show, not a separate rules-free performance system.

Open mic nights
Open mics provide a more structured early performance. They are useful when you have material ready to play but are not yet building a full venue schedule.
- Check the event and city. Make sure you can physically attend without creating a travel conflict.
- Choose suitable material. Use songs your character or band actually knows and can perform.
- Prepare beforehand. Practice and reasonable condition still improve your chances of a good showing.
- Review the result. Treat the outcome as feedback before investing in a bigger show.
Battle of the Bands
Battle of the Bands is a recurring city competition. The current event format is built around up to 20 bands, with two songs per band, and events scheduled on a roughly two-week cycle in each city.

The winner is not decided by a separate “competition skill.” Your selected songs and the strength of the actual performance remain central. That means repertoire, member readiness, skills and preparation still matter.
Which route should I use?
| Route | Best when | Think about |
|---|---|---|
| Busking | You want accessible public activity | Time, location, core skill and condition |
| Open mic | You have a small amount of playable material | Song familiarity, schedule and readiness |
| Battle of the Bands | Your band has two competitive songs and wants a higher-stakes test | Full-band preparation, song choice and event timing |
| Booked gig | You are ready to control a full show | Venue, setlist, travel, crew, equipment, audience and finances |
